Blyde Adventure Camp Leadership development program
All of the topics covered will make use of presentations/lectures as well as practical games and exercises. Learners will need to bring along a blank workbook as well as at least 1 black, 1 blue and 1 other colour pen. All other materials needed for the course will be supplied.

1.Leadership

Summary
Learners should have a clear understanding of what leadership is, the different styles of leadership and their advantages/disadvantages, be able to make an informed decision about which leadership styles would suit certain situations, take control and leadership of situations as well as understand when one should allow others to take control and how to be constructive in a supportive roll.
Duration: 2 hours, games and exercises 1.5 hours
2.Communication
What is communication.
Effective communication.
Communication tools and technology.
Summary
Learners should have a clear understanding of good communication principles. Learners should also be able to plan for and use different communication tools when doing presentations.
Duration: 1 hour, games and exercises 1.5 hours
3.Positive and lateral thinking
Analysis of positive and lateral thinking
Application of positive and lateral thinking to everyday life
Application of positive and lateral thinking to leadership
Summary
Learners should have a clear understanding of positive and lateral thinking concepts. Show an understanding of the application off positive and lateral thinking principles and concepts to leadership.
Duration: 1.5 hours + games and exercises 1 hour
4.Conflict

Summary
Learners should be able to show an understanding of analysis, handling, mediation and resolving of conflict situations.

5.Public speaking

Learners should be able to design and create a speech, prepare for and deliver a 5-10 min public speech/presentation.

Summary
Learners should have a clear understanding of motivational principles and concepts. Learners should be able to apply motivational tools/technology in order to create a motivational presentation of 5min.

7.Interview
Analysis of interviewing techniques used by interviewers
Preparing subject matter for an interview as part of an interview panel
Preparing subject matter for an interview as an individual being interviewed
Preparing candidate for an interview

Summary
Learners should have a clear understanding of interviewing techniques. Learners should be able to prepare subject matter for both roles (interviewer and interviewee), learners should also be able to prepare themselves and assist others in preparing for an interview.

8.Project management
Project needs analysis
Individual, group and project time management
Generating a time frame and work schedule
Summary
Learners should be able to analyse a project and establish required resources for successful completion of project. Learners should be able to design and create a functional time frame and work schedule for the successful completion of the project.
Duration: 2 hours + games and exercises 1.5 hours
Notes
All elements in the Leadership Development Program can be covered comfortably over the course of a weekend if the children arrive just after lunch time on a Friday and depart just before lunch on a Sunday. The coordinators of the group can also request various elements of the program to be left out to suit the group’s needs.
